Hurricane Disaster Relief
On Oct 17, 2014 a devastating storm with winds of 55-74 MPH & hail the size of golf balls devastated the school tearing off most of the roofs, destroying the playground, ripping down the fences, tumbling down a brick wall, and drenching all the books in the library leaving most unusable. This weather event is totally uncharacteristic of weather in Malawi – nothing like it has ever been experienced or recorded. 55-74 MPH winds, golf ball sized hail, and torrential rain ripped apart the school and caused $15k in damage.
We urgently need your help to fix the damage and get the school back up and running. The total cost of repairs is estimated at $15,000 USD. We have raised $5,000 USD through stalwart donors, but are still in need of $10,000.
What is the impact of your donation?
Its relatively easy to rebuild school buildings – with money we can put back in place the bricks, metal, and wood that have been torn asunder. The social fabric that has been a dozen years in the making…the community of teachers, parents, students, and volunteers that have faced each and every adversity with determination and gumption… can not be purchased. With your help, this natural disaster can be a simple hiccup along BeeHive’s journey to providing quality education.
Potential Long Term Impact
BeeHive’s mission is to provide top-quality, ultra-affordable primary education for children in Malawi – it is the only internationally certified school in northern Malawi and is providing their roughly 300 co-ed students with a well-rounded and forward-thinking education. BeeHive is providing a strong educational foundation, such that someday these children may be equipped with the skill, confidence, and passion to one day tackle Malawi’s gravest problems.
